El JWST y MIRI: la larga marcha de la instrumentación espacial
Hace meses hablamos de la contibución española al nuevo telescopio espacial, el James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Ahora empezamos a ver como se convierte en una realidad.

Hace tiempo hablabamos de esta contribución, y de cómo pasamos la fase final de diseño. De hecho, el tiempo vuela y se acerca el momento en el que entregaremos el MTS al consorcio europeo de MIRI, para las pruebas en tierra. Justo a tiempo, ya que durante estas semanas se han iniciado las pruebas en el Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, cerca de Oxford, en el Reino Unido, las pruebas con un modelo de verificación. Después de casi 10 años, MIRI empieza a ser una realidad.

Sin embargo, todavía queda un largo camino por recorrer: la fecha prevista de lanzamiento del JWST es 2013. La espera merecerá la pena, sin duda.
