No es cierto que podamos comprender lo que aquí dice. Simplemente podemos malinterpretar la naturaleza, pero malinterpretar no es comprender.

We can understand how it is that dominant forms which spread widely and yield the greatest number of varieties tend to people the world with allied, but modified, descendants; and these will generally succeed in displacing the groups which are their inferiors in the struggle for existence. Hence, after long intervals of time, the productions of the world appear to have changed simultaneously.

 

Podemos comprender cómo es que las formas predominantes que se extienden mucho y producen el mayor número de variedades tienden a poblar la tierra de descendientes semejantes, pero modificados, y cómo éstos, generalmente, conseguirán suplantar los grupos que les son inferiores en la lucha por la existencia. Por consiguiente, después de grandes espacios de tiempo, las producciones del mundo parecen haber cambiado simultáneamente.
