The research group of Multifunctional Nanocomposites (http://imdea-mng.org)offers a:
PhD studentship
to work in a research project in the area of nanomaterials for photocatalysis and sensing. The student will synthesise new nanostructured hybrid materials for a) photocatalytic applicationssuch as hydrogen production through water splitting and CO2 reduction, and b) advanced sensors in structural materials. Other potential applications of these nanohybrids include to self-cleaning surfaces, dye-sensitised solar cells, etc. The materials will be based on hybrids of nanocarbon(graphene, carbon nanotubes) and semiconducting metal oxides produced to promote charge transfer across their interface.Through investigation of interfacial properties in these systems, the project is expected to answer fundamental questions on how to exploit the outstanding properties of nanomaterials on a macroscopic scale. Close interaction with our collaborators (e.g. IMDEA Energy, University of Münster in Germany) and industrial partners is expected.
Starting date:Early 2015.
Requirements:
Fluent (oral and written) English is required.
First degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or similar.
A master will be highly valued
The candidate will work within the framework of the project MAD2D S2013/MIT-3007
