The Nanomaterials group at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) invites applications for one PhD position, with the focus in developing functional nanoporous materials for catalysis and environmental clean-up applications and the use of advanced X-ray synchrotron characterization tools.

This is a 4 years PhD position funded by an "Atracción de Talento Investigador" grant awarded by Comunidad de Madrid regional government to Dr. Ana E. Platero-Prats with the goal of following chemistry and catalysis on functional nanoporous materials by using X-ray synchrotron techniques and providing atomistic understanding of these materials. Starting date is April 1st 2018, but can be also later upon agreement.

Your Tasks:
 Synthesis and characterization of covalent- and metal-organic frameworks.
 Modification of porous frameworks with selected metal- and/or organic functional groups.
 To perform X-ray scattering (diffraction and pair distribution function) and absorption experiments at synchrotron facilities.
 To perform catalytic and sorption measurements.
 Collaborative work with experimental and theoretical groups.
 Publication of results in scientific journals and presentation in conferences.

Your Qualification, Experience and Skills:
o Being in possession of an official Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent. Having less than 4 years in possession of this official degree.
o Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
o Knowledge and experience of catalysis.
o Being in possession of or close to obtaining an official Master Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or equivalent is recommended.
o Knowledge and experience of porous materials.
o Knowledge of crystallography and diffraction.
