R&D Process Assessment, and Technology Transfer within Universities: A Knowledge-based Approach

The management of the process “research-development-transfer (RDT)”of scientific and technological knowledge is a key activity within Universities. But this process can not be analysed with conventional tools, due to its characteristics. So, we propose a methodology based on the knowledge and intellectual capital concepts.
The aim is to show an original methodology for the assessment of that process through the searching of critical knowledge. This knowledge, embodied in the process, creates the RDT Capital.
The paper’s structure is as follows: first, critical knowledge is identified, then an exploratory analysis is applied to that knowledge . Finally, a process’ assessment is realized with a confirmatory analysis (based on surveys applied to researchers, firms, and institutions).

Spanish Science and Tecnology expectations related to the European Union 7th Framework Programme

Last April, 6th, the European Commission has launched its 7th R&D Framework Programme 2007-2013 proposal. Probably, this proposal will be passed in the 2006 year first half through a European Council common statement, and a co-decision process together with the European Parliament. So, it is not easy to assess the process final results. Instead of that, this paper offers a review of the proposal’s points, and their expected effects on the Spanish Science and Technology System.

Technology and Human Capital Relationship

Growth modern theories have emphasized the Technology and Human capital relevance. But, theoretical and empirical works are usually focused on only one of these factors, avoiding their relationship analysis. This paper analyses the synergies and relationships between technology and human capital. Their understanding allows to know how these factors are accumulated, and what are their impacts on growth.
