Estas galaxias se mantienen unidas entre s\u00ed gracias a la interacci\u00f3n gravitatoria, y los c\u00famulos presentan masas cercanas a 10 billones de veces la del Sol. Los c\u00famulos de galaxias miden normalmente decenas de megap\u00e1rsecs (decenas de millones de a\u00f1os-luz). La formaci\u00f3n de estas agrupaciones se suele situar en periodos entre hace diez mil millones de a\u00f1os y la actualidad. Algunos ejemplos de estas aglomeraciones de galaxias son el c\u00famulo de Virgo, el de H\u00e9rcules y el de la Cabellera de Berenice. Existen otras agrupaciones mayores, llamadas superc\u00famulos de galaxias y otras menores, llamadas grupos de galaxias. Grupo de galaxias es una concentraci\u00f3n de varias decenas de galaxias, con masas totales que alcanzan el bill\u00f3n de veces la de nuestro Sol. Los tama\u00f1os caracter\u00edsticos de los grupos rondan el megap\u00e1rsec (3 millones de a\u00f1os-luz). El ejemplo m\u00e1s cercano lo ofrece el Grupo Local, al que pertenece nuestra Galaxia. Los superc\u00famulos de galaxias son grandes estructuras formadas por la interacci\u00f3n gravitatoria de c\u00famulos y grupos de galaxias, con tama\u00f1os entre los 100 y los 500 megap\u00e1rsecs (300 y 1500 millones de a\u00f1os-luz). Los s\u00faper c\u00famulos de galaxias constituyen las mayores estructuras jer\u00e1rquicas en el cosmos.
