Dado que las part\u00edculas impactantes est\u00e1n cargadas, el campo magn\u00e9tico de la Tierra las desv\u00eda y las encauza hacia las regiones de la atm\u00f3sfera cercanas a los polos magn\u00e9ticos, de ah\u00ed que estos fen\u00f3menos se produzcan casi solo en las regiones polares del planeta y que reciban, por lo tanto, el nombre de auroras polares (auroras boreales y auroras australes).
