La fuente de las ondas de radio coincid\u00eda con la de un objeto que en luz visible parec\u00eda una estrella; de ah\u00ed su nombre, ap\u00f3cope de quasi-stellar radio source, radiofuente casi estelar. Pero el estudio de su espectro de luz desvel\u00f3 que en realidad son objetos extragal\u00e1cticos a miles de millones de a\u00f1os-luz de distancia, los m\u00e1s lejanos que se conocen.<br \/>\nEl primer cu\u00e1sar estudiado, 3C 273, se encuentra a 1500 millones de a\u00f1os-luz de la Tierra. Posteriormente se han observado multitud de estas galaxias y se ha reservado el t\u00e9rmino QSO (quasi-stellar objects, objetos cuasiestelares) para aqu\u00e9llas con baja o nula emisi\u00f3n en radiofrecuencias.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.madrimasd.org\/blogs\/astrofisica\/files\/2011\/06\/cuasar.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madrimasd.org\/blogs\/astrofisica\/files\/2011\/06\/cuasar-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"cu\u00e1sar\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-132226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madrimasd.org\/blogs\/astrofisica\/files\/2011\/06\/cuasar-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/www.madrimasd.org\/blogs\/astrofisica\/files\/2011\/06\/cuasar.jpg 491w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Cu\u00e1sar 3C 454.3, en la constelaci\u00f3n de Pegasus.
