Tarda m\u00e1s de 80 a\u00f1os terrestres en dar una vuelta completa alrededor del Sol con su eje de rotaci\u00f3n tan inclinado que \u00abrueda\u00bb sobre su \u00f3rbita. Junto con Neptuno, forma el grupo de los planetas llamados gigantes helados, compuestos no solo por hidr\u00f3geno y helio sino tambi\u00e9n por una apreciable cantidad de hielo y rocas. De los planetas desconocidos por las civilizaciones antiguas, Urano fue el primero en descubrirse a finales del siglo XVIII, por W. Herschel. Tanto la posici\u00f3n del planeta en su \u00f3rbita como su campo magn\u00e9tico son an\u00f3malos, lo que ha llevado a especulaciones sobre posibles colisiones con otros cuerpos en el pasado. Al igual que J\u00fapiter y Saturno, posee bastantes sat\u00e9lites (casi 30 conocidos hasta ahora) y anillos. Solo la sonda Voyager 2 a mediados de los a\u00f1os 80 se ha acercado a este planeta.
