Durante siglos su color rojizo y cercan\u00eda a la Tierra han cautivado la imaginaci\u00f3n del ser humano y despertado su fantas\u00eda. Guarda numerosas similitudes con nuestro planeta, aunque es m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o (aproximadamente la mitad de tama\u00f1o). Su atm\u00f3sfera est\u00e1 compuesta esencialmente por di\u00f3xido de carbono pero actualmente es muy poco densa. Cada cierto tiempo, el viento es capaz de elevar importantes cantidades de polvo de la superficie formando enormes tormentas. Existen pruebas que sustentan la presencia de agua l\u00edquida en la superficie en grandes cantidades en el pasado. En la actualidad, el agua solo se puede encontrar en estado s\u00f3lido bajo la superficie y en peque\u00f1as cantidades en los polos, aunque tambi\u00e9n podr\u00eda fluir brevemente por su superficie.
