Sin embargo, el timo es el primer \u00f3rgano que degenera con la edad\u00a0 en individuos sanos, y tambi\u00e9n es sensible a tratamientos\u00a0 como la quimioterapia. Por lo tanto, la falta de la funci\u00f3n de dicho \u00f3rgano representa un serio problema para muchos pacientes, as\u00ed como durante el envejecimiento. El <a href=\"http:\/\/medisur.sld.cu\/index.php\/medisur\/announcement\/view\/621\">trasplante de timo humano neonatal<\/a> puede conducir a la reconstituci\u00f3n del sistema inmunol\u00f3gico con \u00e9xito, pero el suministro de tejido es limitado, lo que impide su uso generalizado.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-HjOl9wxZVqk\/UaNtl3uXoTI\/AAAAAAAAOxk\/gVavgjrsWHw\/s640\/124_490_timo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"490\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->La funci\u00f3n del timo depende principalmente de un tipo de c\u00e9lulas, epiteliales t\u00edmicas, que se generan a partir de las <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.es\/books?id=TGxGADaoZwEC&amp;pg=PA256&amp;lpg=PA256&amp;dq=c%C3%A9lulas+madre+epiteliales+del+timo&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=Y5c2VIzOJR&amp;sig=rKWU2AuMbsMM2cgIN9FCyaeGg9Q&amp;hl=es&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=TUa3U_G7FMPR0QX_hID4AQ&amp;ved=0CEEQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&amp;q=c%C3%A9lulas%20madre%20epiteliales%20del%20timo&amp;f=false\">c\u00e9lulas madre epiteliales del timo<\/a> (TESC), por lo que estas \u00faltimas representan una fuente alternativa para trasplantes. Sin embargo, a\u00fan no se han desarrollado protocolos para su aislamiento y cultivo en el laboratorio.<\/p>\n<p>En este sentido, el proyecto financiado por el <a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/legislation_summaries\/energy\/european_energy_policy\/i23022_es.htm\">7\u00ba Programa Marco<\/a> de la Uni\u00f3n Europea, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thymistem.org\/\">THYMISTEM<\/a>, coordinado por <a href=\"http:\/\/www.research.ed.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/persons\/clare-blackburn(107c8d62-20d1-471b-b9d4-871d3e9dd200).html\">Clare Blackburn<\/a>, Universidad de Edimburgo y con la participaci\u00f3n del grupo de <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.cbm.uam.es\/mkfactory.esdomain\/webs\/cbmso\/plt_LineasInvestigacion.aspx?IdObjeto=27\">Mar\u00eda Luisa Toribio<\/a>, (CBMSO; UAM-CSIC), tiene como objetivo desarrollar protocolos robustos para el cultivo a largo plazo de TESC humanas validadas funcionalmente. Se utilizar\u00e1n controles de calidad estandarizados, medios optimizados y soportes adecuados para la administraci\u00f3n de estas c\u00e9lulas a personas inmunodeprimidas, de manera que la funci\u00f3n del timo sea completamente restaurada.
