But the botanist that is desirous of wiping off this aspersion should be by no means content with a list of names; he should study plants philosophically, should investigate the laws of vegetation, should examine the powers and virtues of efficacious herbs, should promote their cultivation; and graft the gardener, the planter and the husbandman, on the phytologist. Not that system is by any means be thrown aside; without system the field of Nature would be a pathless wilderness; but system should be subservient to, not the main object of pursuit.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gilbert White. The Natural History of Shelborne 1789<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00ab..there is no better method for scientists of one period to bring to light their own unconscious, or at least undiscussed, presuppositions (which may insidiously undermine all their work) than to study their own subject in a different period. And&#8230; when the writtings of an earlier author have apparently been taken as the basis of subsequent work, constant scrutiny is neccesary to prevent his presuppositions becoming fossilized, so to speak, in the subject and producing unnoticed inconsistencies when modifications have been made as a result of subsequent work.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Que traduzco:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La eterna objeci\u00f3n a la bot\u00e1nica ha sido, que es una actividad que divierte a la fantas\u00eda y ejercicita la memoria, sin\u00a0 mejorar la mente, o avanzar en un conocimiento real y, cuando la ciencia no se lleva m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de una mera clasificaci\u00f3n sistem\u00e1tica simple, tal acusaci\u00f3n\u00a0 es muy cierta.\u00a0 Sin embargo, el bot\u00e1nico que est\u00e1 deseoso de librarse de tal carga no debe contentarse con una lista de nombres, sino que debe estudiar las plantas filos\u00f3ficamente, investigar las leyes de la vegetaci\u00f3n, examinar los poderes y las virtudes de las hierbas eficaces, promover su cultivo , e\u00a0 injertar\u00a0 el jardinero, el sembrador y el labrador, en el Bot\u00e1nico.\u00a0 No hay que despreciar la sistem\u00e1tica. The Natural History of Shelborne 1789<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"gt-res-content\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u00ab.. para los cient\u00edficos de una \u00e9poca no hay mejor m\u00e9todo\u00a0 de sacar a la luz aquellos presupuestos inconscientes , o al menos\u00a0 no discutidos\u00a0  (que insidiosamente pueden poner en peligro todo su trabajo) , que el  estudio de\u00a0 su propia materia en un per\u00edodo diferente. ..
