Was this the reason for the amazing success of the Origin? It became a best seller overnight, but did all the 1,250 people who bought copies on the first day read the book and if so did they understand anything beyond what the title appeared so easily to explain? As a matter of fact the title contained an omission and a mistake but nobody seemed to notice that! The style is utterly ponderous and dull, but that, of course, may be a matter of taste. What is certain however, is that it could easily have been cut down to much less than half. But Darwin and perhaps the Victorian public did not believe in brevity. It is full of the most muddled thinking and amazing irrelevancies. \u2026The success of the Origin would appear to be one of those cases of crowd psychology, when a book becomes fashionable for some reason not obvious. We of this generation have seen books published on abstruse astronomy and on relativity that have met with similar success.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>El t\u00edtulo mismo del libro &#8211; la preservaci\u00f3n de las razas favorecidas en la lucha por la vida &#8211; esto era algo que el p\u00fablico Victoriano podr\u00eda entender porque era algo corriente en todas partes &#8211; en las calles apartadas del centro y en los lugares de trabajo. \u00bfFue esta la raz\u00f3n del \u00e9xito asombroso del Origen? El libro fue un bestseller de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana, pero de verdad las mil doscientas cincuenta personas que compraron copias durante el primer d\u00eda leyeron el libro Y si as\u00ed fuese, habr\u00edan entendido ellos algo m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de lo que el t\u00edtulo parec\u00eda tan f\u00e1cilmente explicar? \u00a1En realidad el t\u00edtulo conten\u00eda una omisi\u00f3n y un error pero nadie pareci\u00f3 notar esto! El estilo es completamente laborioso y embotado, algo que, desde luego, puede ser una materia de gusto. Lo que es seguro sin embargo, es que f\u00e1cilmente podr\u00eda haber sido reducido a mucho menos de la mitad. Pero Darwin y quiz\u00e1s Darwin y quiz\u00e1s el p\u00fablico Victoriano no creyeron en la brevedad. El libro est\u00e1 lleno del pensamiento m\u00e1s confuso y de una irrelevancia asombrosa. \u2026 El \u00e9xito del Origen parece ser uno de aquellos casos de psicolog\u00eda de masas, cuando un libro se pone de moda por cualquiera raz\u00f3n no obvia.
