We clearly see why species belonging to those groups of animals which cannot cross wide spaces of the ocean, as frogs and terrestrial mammals, do not inhabit oceanic islands; and why, on the other hand, new and peculiar species of bats, animals which can traverse the ocean, are often found on islands far distant from any continent. Such cases as the presence of peculiar species of bats on oceanic islands and the absence of all other terrestrial mammals, are facts utterly inexplicable on the theory of independent acts of creation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Seg\u00fan esta teor\u00eda de la migraci\u00f3n con modificaciones subsiguientes, comprendemos por qu\u00e9 las islas oce\u00e1nicas est\u00e1n habitadas s\u00f3lo por pocas especies y por qu\u00e9 muchas de \u00e9stas son formas peculiares o end\u00e9micas. Comprendemos claramente por qu\u00e9 especies que pertenecen a aquellos grupos de animales que no pueden atravesar grandes espacios del oc\u00e9ano, como los batracios y los mam\u00edferos terrestres, no habitan en las islas oce\u00e1nicas, y por qu\u00e9, por el contrario, se encuentran frecuentemente en islas muy distantes de todo continente especies nuevas y peculiares de murci\u00e9lagos, animales que pueden atravesar el oc\u00e9ano.
