El pasado 19 de febrero fallecía, a los 93 años de edad, el matemático ruso Igor Rostislavovich Shafarevich, nacido el 3 de junio de 1923. Shafarevich fue un distinguido matemático con aportaciones fundamentales en la teoría algebraica de números y en geometría algebraica. Su padre había estudiado mecánica y matemáticas en la Universidad Estatal de Moscú, y luego fue profesor; su madre, Yulia Yacovlevna, era filóloga y una música con talento.
