Takens ha sido uno de los matem\u00e1ticos m\u00e1s importantes en el estudio del caos en los sistemas din\u00e1micos. Biograf\u00eda Takens naci\u00f3 en Zaandam, Holanda, y su etapa escolar se desarroll\u00f3 en La Haya, estudiando despu\u00e9s en la Universidad de Amsterdam. Su director de tesis fue Nicolaas Kuiper, y la defendi\u00f3 en 1969, siendo el t\u00edtulo \u201cEl n\u00famero m\u00ednimo de puntos cr\u00edticos de una funci\u00f3n en una variedad compacta y la categor\u00eda de the Lyusternik\u2013Schnirelmann\u201c.
