Se trata del pontevedr\u00e9s Domingo Font\u00e1n, conocido sobre todo por su monumental trabajo geogr\u00e1fico, el Mapa Geom\u00e9trico de Galicia. Su nombre completo era Domingo Font\u00e1n Rodr\u00edguez, nacido el 17 de abril de 1788 en Porta do Conde (Portas), y fallecido el 24 de octubre de 1866 en Cuntis. Era de familia acomodada, y recibi\u00f3 en consecuencia una educaci\u00f3n esmerada junto a su otro hermano Andr\u00e9s. Domingo mostr\u00f3 ya de ni\u00f1o una buena disposici\u00f3n para el aprendizaje.
