M\u00e1s concretamente, la mayor parte de nuestros resultados tratan sobre la teor\u00eda de superficies de curvatura media constante y temas relacionados, y han sido obtenidos en el ambiente investigador del Departamento de Geometr\u00eda y Topolog\u00eda de la Universidad de Granada. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">La teor\u00eda de superficies de curvatura media constante es una importante disciplina geom\u00e9trica con una gran cantidad de aplicaciones e interconexiones con otros campos: an\u00e1lisis complejo, ecuaciones el\u00edpticas, topolog\u00eda, problemas variacionales, teor\u00eda geom\u00e9trica de la medida, etc. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">Una superfice dentro de una espacio (Riemanniano o Lorentziano) 3-dimensional <span style=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span>tiene curvatura media constante (CMC) si es un punto cr\u00edtico del problema de minimizaci\u00f3n de \u00e1rea a volumen constante. La ecuaci\u00f3n de Euler-Lagrange de este problema variacional es una ecuaci\u00f3n en derivadas parciales no lineal el\u00edptica, que geom\u00e9tricamente se traduce en que la traza de la segunda forma fundamental de la superficie sea constante. Intuitivamente, podemos pensar en las superficies de CMC como modelos para pompas de jab\u00f3n con compartimientos de \u00e1rea interiores, y en las superficies m\u00ednimas (esto es, de curvatura media cero) como pel\u00edculas de jab\u00f3n sin restricci\u00f3n alguna de volumen. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">El problema b\u00e1sico de la teor\u00eda es entender las propiedades geom\u00e9tricas de las superficies de CMC cuando se imponen condiciones globales adicionales de buen comportamiento, tales como compacidad, completitud, embebimiento, topolog\u00eda finita, etc. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">Por ejemplo, uno de los problemas donde m\u00e1s hemos trabajado, aunque por separado, ha sido en entender las soluciones globales de ciertas ecuaciones el\u00edpticas asociadas a la teor\u00eda de superficies de CMC, en caso de que dichas soluciones presenten un n\u00famero finito de singularidades aisladas no evitables. Este es el caso, por ejemplo, de la ecuaci\u00f3n de Monge-Amp\u00e8re el\u00edptica, y de la ecuaci\u00f3n de las superficies maximales. La conclusi\u00f3n ha sido, en ambos casos, una descripci\u00f3n del espacio de tales soluciones, en t\u00e9rminos de la posici\u00f3n de las singularidades o de la estructura conforme subyacente de la soluci\u00f3n.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">Ya a nivel conjunto, nuestra investigaci\u00f3n se ha centrado en el estudio de las superficies de CMC en las geometr\u00edas 3-dimensionales de Thurston. Dichas geometr\u00edas son los espacios riemannianos 3-dimensionales m\u00e1s sim\u00e9tricos que existen (incluyendo los tres espacios modelo), y est\u00e1n formados por una lista de 8 espacios homog\u00e9neos. Entre ellos, los espacios producto H<sup>2<\/sup> \u00d7 R y S<sup>2<\/sup> \u00d7 R y el espacio de Heisenberg Nil<sub>3<\/sub>. El impresionante desarrollo que esta teor\u00eda ha tenido en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, propiciado principalmente por Harold Rosenberg y su escuela, es sin duda uno de los logros principales de la d\u00e9cada en el \u00e1mbito de las superficies de CMC.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">En lo  referente a nuestras aportaciones, en la primavera de 2007 fuimos capaces de resolver uno de los principales problemas abiertos de la teor\u00eda: el problema de Bernstein en el espacio de Heisenberg Nil<sub>3<\/sub>. Esencialmente, probamos que para cada una de estas diferenciales existe una familia 2-param\u00e9trica de grafos enteros minimales, y viceversa. As\u00ed, hay una familia inmensa de grafos enteros minimales, pero dicha familia puede ser descrita satisfactoriamente. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\">La clave en la consecuci\u00f3n de dicha soluci\u00f3n al problema de Bernstein en Nil<sub>3<\/sub> fue otro trabajo nuestro, que obtuvimos en verano de 2005 (de hecho, nuestro primer resultado juntos). En concreto mostramos que, en la teor\u00eda hermana de superficies de CMC <i style=\"\">H<\/i> = 1\/2 en el espacio producto H<sup>2 <\/sup>x R, es posible construir una aplicaci\u00f3n de Gauss con valores en el plano hiperb\u00f3lico H<sup>2<\/sup> que es arm\u00f3nica.
