Al comparar esta cifra con la de los otros grupos, y ajustar los resultados a los posibles factores de confusi\u00f3n (edad, enfermedades previas, gravedad de la enfermedad presente, etc.) <b><span style=\"color: blue;\">los investigadores determinaron que el uso de la profilaxis orofar\u00edngea redujo en un 2,9% la mortalidad mientras que la digestiva lo hizo en un 3,5%.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;; color: blue;\" lang=\"ES\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;; color: blue;\" lang=\"ES\">De Smet y su equipo detectaron adem\u00e1s una tendencia a la baja en la duraci\u00f3n de la ventilaci\u00f3n mec\u00e1nica, la estancia en la UCI y en el hospital entre los pacientes que recibieron antibi\u00f3ticos, aunque la diferencia no era significativa. El n\u00famero de infecciones adquiridas tambi\u00e9n era inferior en estos participantes y no se detect\u00f3 repunte alguno de las bacterias resistentes, aunque no se puede descartar la posibilidad de que \u00e9stas aparezcan a largo plazo.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;; color: blue;\" lang=\"ES\">Precisamente el miedo ante la aparici\u00f3n de microorganismos resistentes a estos f\u00e1rmacos es el principal l\u00edmite para su uso profil\u00e1ctico. A tenor de estos resultados, los investigadores holandeses se inclinan por la descontaminaci\u00f3n orofar\u00edngea como r\u00e9gimen preventivo ideal, ya que utiliza menos antibi\u00f3ticos \u00abminimizando el riesgo de desarrollo de resistencia a largo plazo\u00bb.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;; color: blue;\" lang=\"ES\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\" lang=\"ES\">Evidentemente una disminuci\u00f3n en la mortalidad de un 3,5% es mayor que una de un 2,9%.
