color: blue; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\">La poliomielitis no esta erradicada en el mundo<\/span><\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\">, hay un <b><span style=\"color: blue;\">programa para la erradicaci\u00f3n de la Polio<\/span><\/b>, pero todav\u00eda no est\u00e1 erradicada. <b><o:p><\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; color: blue; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\">Este programa<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\"> del que hablaremos m\u00e1s adelante, b\u00e1sicamente, en los pa\u00edses desarrollados, <b><span style=\"color: blue;\">consiste en la vigilancia de la par\u00e1lisis fl\u00e1ccida aguda para comprobar que no es un caso de polio<\/span><\/b>, mientras que en los pa\u00edses donde todav\u00eda siguen apareciendo casos ya sea de forma espor\u00e1dica como en forma de brotes, se siguen haciendo campa\u00f1as de vacunaci\u00f3n intentando proteger a toda la poblaci\u00f3n infantil.<b><o:p><\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 39pt; text-indent: -0.25in; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\">Despu\u00e9s de la gran epidemia de 1952 y <b><span style=\"color: blue;\">tras la introducci\u00f3n de la vacuna Salk en 1955 y la vacunaci\u00f3n masiva de la poblaci\u00f3n infantil fue erradicada en el hemisferio occidental <\/span><\/b>en la segunda mitad del siglo XX.. Con la difusi\u00f3n de la vacuna, <b><span style=\"color: blue;\">la poliomielitis producida por el virus salvaje, o polio producida por infecci\u00f3n natural, se erradic\u00f3 en los Estados Unidos en 1979 y en el hemisferio occidental, en 1991<\/span><\/b><\/span><span lang=\"ES\">.<\/span><\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 21pt; text-align: justify;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 39pt; text-indent: -0.25in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Wingdings;\" lang=\"ES\"><span>\u00a7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span dir=\"ltr\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; color: blue; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\">Cuando hablamos de erradicaci\u00f3n ha de hacerse a nivel mundial,todo lo dem\u00e1s son erradicaciones (m\u00e1s&nbsp;bien control) a nivel regional, de pa\u00eds, continentes, etc, <\/span><\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';\" lang=\"ES\">&nbsp;porque mientras sigan existiendo focos de enfermedad siempre puede reintroducirse en otro pa\u00eds. As\u00ed de dura es la poliomielitis, popularmente conocida como \u00abla polio\u00bb, una <span style=\"color: blue;\">enfermedad infecciosa y contagiosa <\/span>que a las nuevas generaciones del primer mundo les suena a \u00abchino\u00bb. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\" lang=\"ES\">Pero no hace tanto que desapareci\u00f3 de los pa\u00edses ricos. No fue hasta 1979 cuando una comisi\u00f3n mundial certific\u00f3 su erradicaci\u00f3n, pero hoy, 30 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, repunta en \u00c1frica y el sudeste asi\u00e1tico, seg\u00fan el informe de salud y cooperaci\u00f3n sanitaria mundial 2008 de la organizaci\u00f3n <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicusmundi.es\/\" target=\"_blank\">Medicus Mundi<\/a>. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\" lang=\"ES\">Si en 2001 se hab\u00edan localizado 70 casos <span style=\"color: blue;\">en el continente negro<\/span>, en 2007 alcanzaron los 356, lo que supone que <span style=\"color: blue;\">en seis a\u00f1os los casos se han quintuplicado<\/span>. Del mismo modo<span style=\"color: blue;\">, en el Sureste de Asia las cifras se han casi triplicado<\/span>, ya que se ha pasado de 268 casos en 2001 a 772 en 2007. Adem\u00e1s, el 90% de <span style=\"color: blue;\">los nuevos casos se concentran en cuatro pa\u00edses: Nigeria, Afganist\u00e1n, India y Pakist\u00e1n.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;; color: blue;\" lang=\"ES\">En el caso africano, una de las causas que M\u00e9dicos Mundi apunta para este incremento es la posible influencia de las cr\u00edticas y el rechazo a la vacunaci\u00f3n vertidas por algunos l\u00edderes religiosos del Este de \u00c1frica.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\" lang=\"ES\">En el otro lado est\u00e1 la zona del Mediterr\u00e1neo Oriental, donde los casos se han reducido a la mitad, pasando de 143 casos en 2001 a los 56 de 2007. M\u00e1s suerte tienen <span style=\"color: blue;\">los pa\u00edses del continente americano, Europa y el Pac\u00edfico Oeste, donde la incidencia es nula.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in; text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\" lang=\"ES\">En cualquier caso, los pa\u00edses donde la enfermedad repunta cumplen un requisito indispensable para la transmisi\u00f3n de la polio: una incorrecta higiene. Y es que <span style=\"color: blue;\">la principal v\u00eda de transmisi\u00f3n de esta enfermedad es la ingesti\u00f3n de sustancias contaminadas con el virus, que se encuentra en las heces.
