Aunque, la mayor\u00eda de los casos aparecen en los primeros 10 d\u00edas, el 50% de los casos secundarios se producen en las 7 semanas siguientes a la aparici\u00f3n del caso \u00edndice.<x:namespace prefix = o ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office\" \/><o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: blue; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold\">La tasa de ataque en el medio familiar se estima entre 2 y 4 \/1000 en periodo end\u00e9mico y en un 60\/1000 en periodo epid\u00e9mico. La comunicaci\u00f3n urgente de la aparici\u00f3n de un caso permite poner en marcha, inmediatamente, las medidas de control necesarias, como la quimioprofilaxis y la vacunaci\u00f3n (si fueran serogrupos para los que se dispone vacuna), para evitar la aparici\u00f3n de casos secundarios.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: #cc0000; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">La profilaxis de la infecci\u00f3n meningoc\u00f3cica tiene dos objetivos:<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: #cc0000; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <OL style=\"MARGIN-TOP: 0cm\" type=1> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; COLOR: #cc0000; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1\"> <DIV align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">impedir la adquisici\u00f3n de la bacteria y\/o de la infecci\u00f3n en los contactos \u00edntimos de un caso<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN> <\/DIV> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; COLOR: #cc0000; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1\"> <DIV align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">romper la cadena de transmisi\u00f3n del meningococo impidiendo la difusi\u00f3n secundaria a una poblaci\u00f3n susceptible, sobre todo entre los ni\u00f1os, a partir de portadores sanos.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/DIV><\/LI><\/OL> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><B><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">Clasificaci\u00f3n de la poblaci\u00f3n de riesgo<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/B><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <UL style=\"MARGIN-TOP: 0cm\" type=disc> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2\"> <DIV align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">convivientes en el domicilio del enfermo o personas que hayan dormido en la misma habitaci\u00f3n que el enfermo los 10 d\u00edas precedentes a la hospitalizaci\u00f3n.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN> <\/DIV> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2\"> <DIV align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">Personas que, no viviendo en el domicilio del enfermo hayan tenido contactos frecuentes y repetidos con el mismo los 10 d\u00edas que precedieron a la hospitalizaci\u00f3n.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN> <\/DIV> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2\"> <DIV align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">Colectivos cerrados en los que conviven ni\u00f1os, como escuelas infantiles, etc.\u2026<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/DIV><\/LI><\/UL> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><I style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: blue; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">Hay que tener siempre en cuenta que el enfermo, una vez haya terminado el tratamiento hospitalario, tambi\u00e9n ha de tomar la quimioprofilaxis, ya que la mayor\u00eda de los antibi\u00f3ticos (por ejemplo la&nbsp;Penicilina)&nbsp;utilizados en el tratamiento de la enfermedad&nbsp;no erradican el meningococo de la rinofaringe y estos sujetos son susceptibles de transmitir el meningococo a los contactos.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/I><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" align=justify><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS'\">La profilaxis ha de ser aplicada lo m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidamente posible despu\u00e9s del diagn\u00f3stico. Lo ideal ser\u00eda administrarla el mismo d\u00eda o al d\u00eda siguiente de ser diagnosticado el caso.
