Sin embargo, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">nuestros antepasados dieron buena cuenta de las grandes manadas de herb\u00edvoros y carn\u00edvoros<\/span><\/b> a lo largo y ancho del planeta. Cierto es que, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">se mantiene un debate sobre si tales extinciones se debieron al cambio clim\u00e1tico o a la acci\u00f3n humana<\/span><\/b>. El problema estriba en que, a menudo, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">ambos procesos coincidieron m\u00e1s o menos en el tiempo<\/span><\/b>, por lo que pudieran haberse reforzado mutuamente (sinergias). Desde hace tiempo, los paleoec\u00f3logos nos informan que <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">durante las glaciaciones<\/span> <\/b>gran parte de los paisajes de la <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e9rica<\/span><\/b> se encontraban <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">constituidos por espacios abiertos salpicados de \u00e1rboles o bosquetes<\/span><\/b>, mayoritariamente <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">de con\u00edferas<\/span><\/b>. Del mismo modo, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">la fauna de aquellos tiempos<\/span><\/b> se encontraba constituida por unos ensamblajes que atesoraban <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">especies de herb\u00edvoros y carn\u00edvoros semejantes a los de las sabanas africanas actuales, aunque adaptados al fr\u00edo, junto con especies<\/span><\/b> que actualmente habitan en la<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> taiga y<\/span><\/b> otras de <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">ambientes templados o fr\u00edos (c\u00e9rvidos, \u00e9quidos, caprinos)<\/span><\/b>. Los primeros formaban <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">grandes reba\u00f1os<\/span><\/b>, parecidos tambi\u00e9n a los de las mencionadas formaciones tropicales. No soy experto en el tema, pero recuerdo que en muchos casos se llegaba a la conclusi\u00f3n de que <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">los encuestados apostaban<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>por espacios, ni muy abiertos, ni muy cerrados<\/span><\/b>. Es decir formaciones vegetales <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">del tipo de las sabanas y dehesas<\/span><\/b>. Uno de aquellos estudios fue llevado a cabo por a\u00f1orado catedr\u00e1tico de Ecolog\u00eda de la UAM, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez Bern\u00e1ldez<\/span><\/b>, si bien, otros an\u00e1lisis en diferentes pa\u00edses (por ejemplo en EE.UU.) alcanzaron conclusiones similares. Probablemente este hecho se deba a que, a lo largo de su historia, el <b style=\"\"><i style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Homo sapiens<\/span><\/i><\/b>, pero tambi\u00e9n los <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">neardentales<\/span><\/b>, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">habitaban, pero tambi\u00e9n ayudaban a conformar con sus primitivas herramientas <\/span><\/b>(como lo es el uso del fuego), <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">tales ecosistemas<\/span><\/b>. Ya os hablamos de sus caracter\u00edsticas en los siguientes post: \u201c<a href=\"\/blogs\/universo2009\/03\/16\/114593.aspx\">Sabanas africanas y el papel de los grandes mam\u00edferos<\/a> \u201d y \u201c<a href=\"\/blogs\/universo2009\/03\/21\/114912.aspx\">Sabanas Mediterr\u00e1neas<\/a>\u201d. <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Estas \u00faltimas, pertenecen a los periodos<\/span><\/b> interglaciares, es decir los<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> c\u00e1lidos del cuaternario<\/span><\/b>. Sin embargo, reiteramos que los paleoec\u00f3logos suelen defender que en<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> los periodos glaciares, bajo climas muy fr\u00edos en el sur de Europa, se establecieron ensamblajes de plantas y animales similares fison\u00f3micamente<\/span><\/b>. Obviamente su composici\u00f3n en especies era totalmente distinta. Kuehne<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">Fuera como fuera, el escenario m\u00e1s plausible consiste en que<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> las estructuras de sabana y estepas fr\u00edas se alternaran durante los mencionados ciclos glaciares e interglaciares<\/span><\/b>.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>Por tanto, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">la nota de prensa de la que hoy nos hacemos eco, no viene m\u00e1s que a corroborar dicha conjetura<\/span><\/b> (eso s\u00ed, bastante avalada por los registros paleontol\u00f3gicos). <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">La \u00fanica novedad estriba en que se ha detectado al Mamut ya cerca de \u00c1frica<\/span><\/b>, en el l\u00edmite meridional de la Pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e9rica, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">hace unos 25.000-35 a\u00f1os<\/span><\/b>, desplazando un poco m\u00e1s al sur su frontera conocida hasta la fecha. Diversos estudios han mostrado en Espa\u00f1a la presencia de <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">cu\u00f1as de hielo en ciertos lugares de la meseta norte<\/span><\/b>. Del mismo modo, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">en las sierras, ciertos tipos de fragipanes delatan la presencia de suelos helados<\/span><\/b> con estructuras poligonales en superficie (<a href=\"http:\/\/estudiosgeol.revistas.csic.es\/index.php\/estudiosgeol\/article\/viewFile\/526\/547\">ver el siguiente art\u00edculo sobre este tema<\/a>). Hablamos de los<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> Criosoles o Gelisoles <\/span><\/b>(seg\u00fan la taxonom\u00eda utilizada) con<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>sus idiosincr\u00e1sicas capas de<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> permafrost<\/span><\/b>.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>No obstante, aun no se disponen de estudios suficientes como para delimitar con cierta exactitud la ubicaci\u00f3n y extensi\u00f3n de este tipo de edafotaxa en Iberia. Finalmente, desde el punto de vista de <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">los reg\u00edmenes de humedad y temperatura de los suelos<\/span><\/b>, recordemos que<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> los periodos glaciares fueron fr\u00edos y secos<\/span><\/b>.
