Aun queda mucho por saber de estos canijos<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>e insignificantes bichitos. Los hab\u00eda de todos los tama\u00f1os y con h\u00e1bitos de alimentaci\u00f3n muy variados. Las estructuras detectadas <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">no atesoran grandes dimensiones<\/span><\/b>. Es decir, son m\u00e1s o menos semejantes a las que excavan otros reptiles y mam\u00edferos actualmente vivos. Sin embargo \u00bfQui\u00e9n sabe? <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">\u00bfPodr\u00edan haber hecho lo mismo otros dinosaurios de grandes dimensiones?<\/span><\/b> <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">\u00a1Quiz\u00e1s!<\/span><\/b>. <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Sin embargo<\/span><\/b>, para cavar grandes huecos en el suelo, de forma estable, deben r<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">esolverse ciertos problemas f\u00edsicos o mec\u00e1nicos, so pena que la estructura de la b\u00f3veda se desplome<\/span><\/b>, a no ser que estuviera bien cementada por alg\u00fan compuesto cimentante.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u00bfPodr\u00eda ser? Muchas especies de mayores tama\u00f1os quiz\u00e1s emigraran, o se refugiaran en el interior de cuevas profundas de grandes dimensiones. Todo es posible. Recordemos una vez m\u00e1s que diversas especies de reptiles modernos excavan madrigueras. Por tanto, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">no resulta ser una novedad en el mundo reptiliano<\/span><\/b>. Ahora bien, si podemos se\u00f1alar que <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">nuestros \u201cdinos\u201d sab\u00edan valorar bien la importancia de un \u201cbuen suelo\u201d<\/span><\/b>.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>Iba a comenzar a traducir, las dos noticias de prensa en suahili relacionadas con el tema, cuando he detectado que en el Blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecocircuitos.net\/animales\/descubren-madrigueras-de-dinosaurio\">Ecocircuitos<\/a> ya <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">hab\u00edan realizado una magnifica tarea,<\/span><\/b> al contrario de lo que suele ocurrir en la prensa escrita de este pa\u00eds. Os recomiendo que visit\u00e9is el sitio, ya que la mayor\u00eda de los blogs en castellano tan solo reproducen la noticia original y a menudo soslayando detalles suculentos. Este no es el caso, y de hecho, amplia la informaci\u00f3n de las notas que he le\u00eddo en Suahili. Encomiable trabajo que merecer\u00e1 que sigamos este blog m\u00e1s de cerca. <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Felicidades<\/span><\/b>. Lo que refuerza la idea de que <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: green;\">los dinosaurios que viv\u00edan en climas fr\u00edos y duros se escond\u00edan bajo el suelo para sobrevivir<\/span><\/b>. El <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">primer hallazgo<\/span><\/b> de una madriguera de estas caracter\u00edsticas se hizo<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> hace tres a\u00f1os en Montana<\/span><\/b>, Estados Unidos. En esa oportunidad el agujero encontrado <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">ten\u00eda 95 millones de a\u00f1os y conten\u00eda <\/span><\/b>los huesos de un peque\u00f1o dinosaurio adulto y dos j\u00f3venes de la especie de conocida como <b style=\"\"><i style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Oryctodromeus Cubicularis<\/span><\/i><\/b>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">Esta vez las nuevas madrigueras las encontr\u00f3 uno de los investigadores que descubri\u00f3 la de Montana. \u201c<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Como muchos hallazgos en paleontolog\u00eda, ocurri\u00f3 gracias a una mezcla de fortuna y conocimiento<\/span><\/b>\u201d, explic\u00f3 Anthony Martin, de la Universidad Emory de Atlanta, EE.UU.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u201cEn mayo de 2006 hice una excursi\u00f3n por el sitio (del descubrimiento) junto a un grupo de reci\u00e9n graduados con la intenci\u00f3n de buscar huellas de dinosaurios\u201d, cont\u00f3 el paleont\u00f3logo. \u201cEncontramos esos rastros, pero mientras estuve por ah\u00ed me llamaron la atenci\u00f3n unas estructuras intrigantes\u201d. As\u00ed fue como Martin decidi\u00f3 regresar al lugar, conocido como la Cala del Conocimiento a unos 240km de Melbourne, primero en julio de 2007 y despu\u00e9s <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">en mayo de este a\u00f1o<\/span><\/b>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">Su primera reacci\u00f3n fue de <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">estupefacci\u00f3n. \u201cEstaba explorando los primeros rastros de f\u00f3sil y me qued\u00e9 sorprendido <\/span><\/b>en ver <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">el mismo tipo de estructura que hab\u00eda visto<\/span><\/b> en la piedras de Cret\u00e1ceos de Montana <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">el a\u00f1o anterior\u201d<\/span><\/b>. It follows the first trace fossil of a <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">dinosaur burrow made in Montana<\/span><\/b> by Martin and colleagues in 2006.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">It suggests that <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: green;\">burrowing behaviours were shared by dinosaurs of different species<\/span><\/b>, in <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: green;\">different hemispheres, and spanned millions of years during the Cretaceous <\/span><\/b>Period, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: green;\">when some dinosaurs lived in polar environments.<\/span><\/b><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u00abThis research helps us to better understand long-term geologic change, and how organisms<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> may have adapted as the Earth has undergone periods of global cooling and warming<\/span><\/b>,\u00bb said Martin, a senior lecturer in environmental studies at Emory. They later named the dinosaur species <b style=\"\"><i style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Oryctodromeus cubicularis<\/span><\/i><\/b>, meaning \u00abdigging runner of the lair\u00bb.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">The researchers hypothesised that, besides caring for young in their dens, <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">burrowing may have allowed some dinosaurs to survive extreme environments <\/span><\/b>\u2013 throwing a wrench in some extinction theories. A year after the <\/span><st1:state><st1:place><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Montana<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:state><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> find, Martin traveled to the coast of <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Australia<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><b style=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\" lang=\"EN-GB\">&#8216;s southern state of <\/span><\/b><st1:state><st1:place><b style=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Victoria<\/span><\/b><\/st1:place><\/st1:state><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">, which marks the seam where <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Australia<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">once snuggled against <\/span><\/b><\/span><st1:place><b style=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Antarctica<\/span><\/b><\/st1:place><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">Lower Cretaceous strata of Victoria have yielded the best-documented assemblage of polar dinosaur bones in the world.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">During a hike to a remote site known as Knowledge Creek, west of <\/span><st1:city><st1:place><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Melbourne<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:city><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">,<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> Martin <\/span><\/b>rounded the corner of an outcropping and was astounded<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\"> to see, right at eye level, the trace fossil of what appeared to be a burrow almost identical to the one he had identified in <\/span><\/b><\/span><st1:state><st1:place><b style=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Montana<\/span><\/b><\/st1:place><\/st1:state><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\" lang=\"EN-GB\">. <span style=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span>\u00abI stared at it for a long time,\u00bb recalls Martin. \u00ab<b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">In palaeontology, the saying, &#8216;where luck meets preparation&#8217; <\/span><\/b>really holds true. \u00abThe probable burrow etched into the <b style=\"\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">Early Cretaceous outcrop is about 182 cm long and 30.5 cm in diameter<\/span><\/b>. <\/span><b style=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">It gently descends in a semi-spiral, ending in an enlarged chamber<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial;\">.
