Seguramente, si en las potenciales bifurcaciones de la historia humana otra civilizaci\u00f3n hubiera ocupado el lugar que hegem\u00f3nicamente hoy nos corresponde, la actividad cient\u00edfica existir\u00eda, aunque probablemente con valores y\/o perspectivas algo diferentes. La arrogancia de los triunfadores, siempre ef\u00edmera desde una mirada hist\u00f3rica, nos hace pensar que solo \u201cexiste\u201d un tipo de actividad investigadora digna de llevar tal etiqueta: la que hoy conocemos. \u201cEl ego nos ciega hasta extremos delirantes\u201d. Tanto es as\u00ed que, por ejemplo, todas las medicinas que no son propias de nuestra cultura son etiquetadas como \u201calternativas\u201d. En realidad, la ciencia occidental las ha despreciado desde siempre. Su auge actual deviene de la desconfianza creciente en nuestras pr\u00e1cticas m\u00e9dicas, as\u00ed como por las modas que nos acercan al misticismo oriental y los productos asociados a sus pr\u00e1cticas culturales. Pero nuestra apreciaci\u00f3n se encuentra virando vertiginosamente.
