Peter comenta que ya <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>se ha publicado un nuevo \u201caddendum\u201d o ap\u00e9ndice al Manual <\/strong>\u201c<strong>The World Reference Base for Soil Resources<\/strong><\/span>\u201d, es decir a la nueva clasificaci\u00f3n de Suelos de la IUSS-FAO (WRB, 2006- 2007) que, tambi\u00e9n os anunciamos en otro post, se encuentra traducida al espa\u00f1ol, entre otros muchos idiomas. Como sab\u00e9is, este nuevo producto no se encontraba inicialmente dise\u00f1ado para <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">cartografiar suelos a escalas peque\u00f1as<\/span><\/strong>. Sin embargo, han sido numerosas las instituciones que lo requer\u00edan para tal fin. <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Y el asunto no resulta ser nada tan trivial, como indicar que basta tan solo con tener en cuenta los calificadores prefijo, soslayando los sufijo<\/span><\/strong>. Peter ya nos habl\u00f3 personalmente de este tema en la Conferencia Internacional de Geograf\u00eda de Suelos (M\u00e9xico). Trabajando duro, como siempre, el amigo <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Peter ha elaborado tales directrices<\/span><\/strong>, que pod\u00e9is bajaros libremente de la \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/nr\/land\/soils\/soil\/wrb-documents\/en\">P\u00e1gina Web de la WRB (FAO)<\/a>. The \u00abGuidelines for constructing small-scale map legends using the WRB\u00bb are now electronically published <strong>as an amendment to WRB 2006\/07 <\/strong>and available<strong> at the WRB homepage at FAO<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/nr\/land\/soils\/soil\/wrb-documents\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.fao.org\/nr\/land\/soils\/soil\/wrb-documents\/en\/<\/a>. (\u2026)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Introduction<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this<strong> addendum to WRB 2006, first update 2007, guidelines are provided to construct map units (or soil typological units) and map legends for scales of 1:250 000 and smaller<\/strong>. For terms and definitions in these guidelines the user is referred to the above publication, which can be <strong>downloaded from the WRB website<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/ag\/agl\/agll\/wrb\/doc\/wrb2007_corr.pdf\">http:\/\/www.fao.org\/ag\/agl\/agll\/wrb\/doc\/wrb2007_corr.pdf<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>When classifying soils, the WRB is capable of <\/strong>indicating most of the soil\u2019s properties, and in most cases the result is a quite satisfactory and informative soil name. <strong>However, when generalization is required, e.g. in mapping, important information may not show<\/strong>, depending on how the generalization is carried out.<strong> Although WRB was not primarily designed to serve mapping purposes, it is increasingly used for that. This addendum has been developed to serve the need for small-scale mapping<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the above-mentioned WRB publication i<strong>t is suggested to use for small scale maps the prefix qualifiers only and for large-scale maps additional suffix qualifiers<\/strong>. I<strong>f this approach is taken with the current configuration of the qualifiers, important information on certain soil characteristics may not be revealed for small-scale maps. For example<\/strong>, the occurrence of clay skins (Cutanic) is recognized at prefix level, and, when generalizing, Luvisols (and related soils) become Cutanic Luvisols or Cutanic other soils, which for temperate and subtropical regions does not give satisfactory differentiation.
