Y este es el caso de la noticia que nos \u201cveden hoy\u201d. Al parecer, un sesudo y concienciado ambientalista, ha demostrado que <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">el material de turba es un excelente absorbente de los vertidos petrol\u00edferos<\/span>.<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"> El problema<\/span> <\/strong>estriba en que los verdaderos expertos en el tema llevan tiempo advirtiendo que <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>de seguir increment\u00e1ndose el ritmo de la extracci\u00f3n de turba<\/strong><\/span> para diversos prop\u00f3sitos comerciales<strong>, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">acabaremos con este tipo de suelos<\/span><\/strong>, que reportan muchos beneficios ambientales. Si bien el primer caso, \u201cpudiera llegar a ser un posibilidad plausible\u201d en ciertos casos, el segundo deviene en <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">atentado contra el medio ambiente, debido<\/span> <\/strong>a la ingente cantidad de toneladas que podr\u00eda requerir paliar la contaminaci\u00f3n del derrame de un gran buque petrolero.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Es parad\u00f3jico que mientras <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">muchos expertos se encuentren afanosamente buscando materiales alternativos que palien la creciente demanda de turba<\/span><\/strong>, para jardiner\u00eda, viveros y otros fines (ver nuestro post \u201c<a title=\"Enlace permanente: Aprovechamiento de la Turba y Degradaci\u00f3n Ambiental de Humedales y Suelos\" href=\"https:\/\/www.madrimasd.org\/blogs\/universo\/2009\/09\/22\/125215\">Aprovechamiento de la Turba y Degradaci\u00f3n Ambiental de Humedales y Suelos<\/a>\u201d, aparezcan individuos como este, vendiendo una vez, m\u00e1s <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">una forma de atajar problemas de contaminaci\u00f3n totalmente insustentable<\/span><\/strong>. Reiteramos que este \u201cexperto\u201d mete en el mismo saco la descontaminaci\u00f3n de peque\u00f1os enclaves de gran valor natural, con <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>vertidos como el del Golfo de M\u00e9xico, que demandar\u00edan arrasar miles de kil\u00f3metros cuadrados de materiales procedentes de estos suelos, asolando paisajes terrestres y poniendo en riesgo la resiliencia de los ecosistemas en los que se encuentra<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Las turberas son<\/span> <\/strong>uno de los <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">m\u00e1s grandes sumideros de carbono terrestre<\/span><\/strong>, adem\u00e1s de que, como ya apuntamos en otro post, devienen en <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">bloques de memoria que preservan reliquias arqueol\u00f3gicas, paleontol\u00f3gicas e informaci\u00f3n paleoecol\u00f3gica muy valiosa<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Resulta cada vez m\u00e1s palmario que los \u201cbrotes verdes\u201d que salen de los cerebros de personajes como este, son de la misma catadura que los de otros muchos vendemotos que tan <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">s\u00f3lo buscan beneficios econ\u00f3micos, enmascarando sus verdaderos intereses<\/span><\/strong> desde ese mugre verdor que huele a <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">desinter\u00e9s y rapi\u00f1a de la naturaleza. Lo dicho \u201cintertar\u201d paliar un problema generando otro, con todas seguridad<\/span><\/strong>. Three years ago, he brought Kallak and SINTEF together. An expertise broking project was set up with scientists from SINTEF&#8217;s Marine Environmental Technology department, with the aim of testing different types of peat moss and documenting their properties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The conclusions drawn from the testing programme were quite clear: the peat moss had excellent potential, as since its ability to take up oil was as good as, or in some cases even considerably better than, other products already available on the market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Used in the \u00ab<\/strong><strong>Full<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>City<\/strong><strong>\u00bb incident<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>In the summer of 2009, the Panama-registered \u00abFull City\u00bb <\/strong>ran aground off Langesund on the <strong>south-east coast of Norway, causing severe oil contamination<\/strong> along much of the coast. <strong>This incident gave Kallak Torvstr\u00f8fabrikk the chance to demonstrate the efficacy of its new product on land<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Svein Ramstad of SINTEF&#8217;s <strong>Marine Environment department says that the peat moss was deployed on a geological conservation area<\/strong> near Langesund and at Stavern. <strong>The area was heavily contaminated, and particular care needed to be taken. Gravel and stones were mixed with the peat moss and were laid back in their original position, to good effect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Further activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kallak Torvstr\u00f8fabrikk h<strong>as recently developed a series of other products based on its peat-moss absorbent material<\/strong>, such as three metre-long \u00absausages\u00bb and buckets of peat moss, which the fire brigade and operators of heavy machinery can use in the event of spills of oil, diesel fuel or other environmentally hazardous liquids.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The peat moss mixtures have been laboratory tested on various types of crude oil and bunkers oil.
