Como ya comentamos en un post anterior<\/span><\/a>, en donde hablamos de otra iniciativa semejante como lo es Avaaz<\/span><\/a>, que las redes sociales han propiciado<\/strong> el surgimiento de movimientos ciudadanos<\/strong><\/span> del tipo de Care2<\/span><\/a>, cuya misi\u00f3n estriba en denunciar atrocidades que con anterioridad nos eran desconocidas<\/strong><\/span>. A la hora de escribir este post, en el siguiente enlace: Care2<\/span><\/a>, se relata que, en Nigeria, la miner\u00eda del oro propiciaba una tragedia que ya cuenta con la dolosa muerte de 500 criaturas y otras 3500 en condiciones de salud cr\u00edticas<\/strong><\/span>. La poblaci\u00f3n afectada<\/strong><\/span>, al margen de vivir y\/o trabajar en estas zonas mineras, padece envenenamientos generados<\/strong> <\/span>por<\/strong><\/span> los procedimientos aplicados a la hora de extraer el mineral. El plomo, en forma de part\u00edculas de aerosoles, es emitido al aire, deposit\u00e1ndose y contaminando\u00a0 suelos y aguas<\/strong>. Parte ser\u00e1 bebida, pero otra, procedente de los cienos (sedimentos o suelos subacu\u00e1ticos) resulta ser utilizada para la construcci\u00f3n de las modestas viviendas<\/strong><\/span> de los desdichados habitantes. En consecuencia, la poblaci\u00f3n se contamina por el agua<\/strong><\/span>, ya sea al ser ingerida directamente, o por los alimentos cocinados en ella, al lavarse, pero tambi\u00e9n al respirar\u00a0y finalmente desde las paredes de los propios hogares<\/strong>. Estas \u00faltimas van emitiendo tambi\u00e9n part\u00edculas fuertemente contaminadas por plomo que<\/strong><\/span> son inhaladas por los moradores que all\u00ed descansan. Esto es lo que se denomina un ataque por tierra, agua y aire<\/strong><\/span>. Recordemos que los sedimentos de charcas y lagunas someras son actualmente considerados suelos por la WRB<\/strong> <\/span>entre otras clasificaciones. El calificador \u00abt\u00f3xico\u00bb<\/strong><\/span> deber\u00eda dar cuenta de tales edafotaxa. El gobierno Nigeriano, para variar, se lava las manos, debo suponer que con l\u00edquidos menos venenosos, quiz\u00e1s champagne. Care2 tan solo solicita firmas para frenar una tragedia denunciada por el Observatorio de los Derechos Humanos. Hablamos pues de suelos altamente contaminados usados como material para la construcci\u00f3n de los hogares<\/strong><\/span>, ya que los habitantes no disponen de otros recursos. Si a uno le maravillan los prodigios de la naturaleza, tambi\u00e9n le dejan at\u00f3nito las mil y una maneras que la sociedad y econom\u00eda actuales disponen, en forma de arsenales invisibles<\/strong><\/span>, a la hora de hacer enfermar a una poblaci\u00f3n totalmente desprotegida<\/strong><\/span>. Stop the Lead Poisoning Epidemic in Nigeria!<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Lead poisoning is a major problem and epidemic in Nigeria. In the state of Zamfara alone, over 400 children have died of lead poisoning since 2010<\/strong>. According to Human Rights Watch<\/strong>, this is the worst case of lead poisoning in the history of the modern world<\/strong>. It has killed over 400 innocent children and has sent 3500 children into critical condition with them needing life saving medical treatment<\/strong>. Unfortunately, only half of these kids will receive the urgent medical help that they desperately need. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/span>The source of this devastating lead poisoning is from the methods used for mining gold as lead dust is released into the air and then contaminates everything<\/strong>. Their houses are made with mud from contaminated water sources<\/strong>, they bathe in water filled with lead, and they work in mines which exposes them further to lead poisoning. These children breathe in and absorb lead in so many ways<\/strong> and it is devastating communities and families all over Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the responsibility of the Nigerian government to provide<\/strong> adequate and safe housing and food for these innocent children. Human Rights Watch<\/strong> states that Nigeria is obligated under international law to protect and support these children. They need to live in environments that promote safety and health; not ones that cause their deaths. <\/span><\/p>\n

So many children have already been impacted and if the government does not immediately step in and clean these communities and their water sources, more will die<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tell the Nigerian government that these children desperately and urgently need help. It is their responsibility to provide clean and safe water to Nigerian children.
