Como veremos hoy algunos <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">\u201cexpertos\u201d comentan que se trata de un verdadero desierto<\/SPAN><\/B>, al contrario de la exuberante manifestaci\u00f3n de vida que surge sobre el medio ed\u00e1fico. Y as\u00ed lo demuestran todos los art\u00edculos que he le\u00eddo. Ahora bien, <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">\u00bfse trata de una aseveraci\u00f3n incuestionable? Sinceramente creo que no. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9? Sencillamente a causa de la asunci\u00f3n de que la mayor parte de la actividad biol\u00f3gica y materia org\u00e1nica se acumula en los cent\u00edmetros superficiales del suelo<\/SPAN><\/B>.<SPAN style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/SPAN>Por estas razones, en el art\u00edculo que os voy a presentar hoy, como en la mayor\u00eda, tan solo se analizan esos 5 primeros cm., tras retirar la hojarasca (da igual que hubieran sido 10 o 15). Como me llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">busqu\u00e9 el art\u00edculo original<\/SPAN><\/B>. Debido a que este hab\u00eda sido publicado en la prestigiosa revista norteamericana: \u201c<A href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/cgi\/reprint\/103\/3\/626?maxtoshow=&amp;HITS=10&amp;hits=10&amp;RESULTFORMAT=&amp;fulltext=The+diversity+and+biogeography+of+soil&amp;searchid=1&amp;FIRSTINDEX=0&amp;resourcetype=HWCIT\"><FONT color=#800080>Proceedings of the National Academy of Science<\/FONT><\/A>\u201d, era muy posible que estuviera en <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">acceso abierto<\/SPAN><\/B>, al contrario que en las europeas. Y as\u00ed fue. <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">Pinchar aqu\u00ed y baj\u00e1roslo si ten\u00e9is inter\u00e9s<\/SPAN><\/B><\/SPAN><SPAN lang=EN-GB style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\">: \u201c<\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><A href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/cgi\/reprint\/103\/3\/626.pdf\"><SPAN lang=EN-GB style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\"><FONT color=#800080>The diversity and biogeography of soil bacterial communities<\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/A><\/SPAN><SPAN lang=EN-GB style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\">\u201d.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN lang=EN-GB style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">Los autores <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">recogieron muestras de una gran cantidad de biomas<\/SPAN><\/B> para llegar a las siguientes <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">conclusiones<\/SPAN><\/B>:<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <UL style=\"MARGIN-TOP: 0cm\" type=disc> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1\"><B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: #3366ff; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">La diversidad bacteriana de los suelos de la cuenca amaz\u00f3nica es tan pobre que podr\u00eda considerarse un desierto.<\/SPAN><\/B><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/LI> <LI class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; tab-stops: list 36.0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1\"><B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: #3366ff; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">A nivel global el pH resultar\u00eda ser el principal determinante de la diversidad de bacterias de los suelos<\/SPAN><\/B><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">.<o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/LI><\/UL> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">N\u00f3tese que <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">no se habla de microorganismos, sino tan solo de bacterias<\/SPAN><\/B>. Por lo tanto cabr\u00eda pensar que <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">pudiera no ocurrir igual con arqueas, hongos, actinomicetos, algas etc.<\/SPAN><\/B> \u00a1Pudiera ser!. Sin embargo, tengo constancia que el n\u00famero de individuos y especies de nematodos de los suelos naturales de las selvas tropicales es muy escaso, al menos en los cent\u00edmetros superficiales. Recordemos que se trata de un grupo de invertebrados muy abundante en todos los suelos y con una gran cantidad de especies descritas. Por tanto <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">no resulta imprudente corroborar tal tesis \u201cprovisionalmente\u201d<\/SPAN><\/B>. <o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">Sin embargo, <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">una cuesti\u00f3n es aseverar que eso ocurre en los cent\u00edmetros superficiales y otra bien distinta extrapolarlo al conjunto del perfil del suelo<\/SPAN><\/B>. Como ya comentamos en varios post que incluimos en la categor\u00eda<SPAN style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/SPAN>\u201c<A href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.madrimasd.org\/universo\/category\/399.aspx\"><FONT color=#800080>Biomasa y Necromasa en los Suelos<\/FONT><\/A>\u201d, y que pod\u00e9is consultar all\u00ed, la<B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\"> distribuci\u00f3n de materia org\u00e1nica y ra\u00edces es muy superior a la que se cre\u00eda previamente<\/SPAN><\/B>, cuando en lugar de esos cm. superficiales se <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">analiza hasta una profundidad de 2, 3 o 4 metros<\/SPAN><\/B>. Todos los edaf\u00f3logos <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">cre\u00edamos que el carbono del suelo y la biomasa radicular eran muy escasos en los suelos \u00e1cidos tropicales, pero resulto no ser cierto<\/SPAN><\/B>, sino todo lo contrario. <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">Por lo tanto, debido a que<\/SPAN><\/B> las rizosferas (comunidades microbianas ligadas a los sistemas radicales) se desarrollan a lo largo de todo el entramado de ra\u00edces, as\u00ed como que el carbono detectado en el medio ed\u00e1fico se encuentra positivamente relacionados con ellas, me atrever\u00eda a se\u00f1alar que las conclusiones obtenidas no pueden ser extrapolables al conjunto de los solum tropicales. <o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: #3366ff; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">\u00bfY que decir de la aseveraci\u00f3n de estos autores sobre la importancia del pH?. Ya han detectado otro tipo de determinismo<\/SPAN><\/B><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">. Pero dudo que todo sea tan sencillo como los autores defienden. <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">La biomasa y diversidad de los microorganismos en los \u00e1cidos en Espa\u00f1a var\u00edan enormemente<\/SPAN><\/B>. Ya hablamos de este hecho tambi\u00e9n, as\u00ed como que emigran en ambientes semi\u00e1ridos a los horizontes m\u00e1s profundos tan pronto como el clima les es desfavorable. <SPAN style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;<\/SPAN>Por tanto al muestrear exclusivamente los horizontes superficiales (\u2026) \u00a1m\u00e1s de lo mismo!. <o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P> <P class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Comic Sans MS'\">Resumiendo <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">se trata de un trabajo que, por partir de premisas err\u00f3neas, nos lleva a conclusiones falaces<\/SPAN><\/B>. No digo que <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">los resultados<\/SPAN><\/B> no alberguen valor alguno. Lo que ocurre es que <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">no son extrapolables para el conjunto del suelo<\/SPAN><\/B>. Sin embargo, son muchos los expertos en biolog\u00eda del medio ed\u00e1fico que defienden, sin una base emp\u00edrica adecuada, que casi toda la actividad biol\u00f3gica y biomasa microbiana se concentra cerca de su superficie. Y es obvio que en tanto en cuando continuemos muestreando mediante este tipo de dise\u00f1os seguiremos corroborando una verdad a medias, que en muchos aspectos es peor que una mentira rotunda. <B style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #3366ff\">S\u00f3lo se ve lo que se explora. Their first-ever continental-scale genetic survey of soil bacteria revealed that the primary factor that seems to govern the diversity of soil bacteria is soil pH.
