Feel yourself as a real Chemist for a day! Have experiences with researchers of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the UCM. Enjoy chemical elements and molecules in action. In a brief welcome we will explain why the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is celebrated in 2019 and we will make a brief narration of its exciting origin and history. Participants can find out if there are chemical elements discovered by Spanish scientists. Next, we will divide into groups to perform various activities. In the first one the attendees will make their own experiments equipped with a lab coat, gloves and safety glasses. These experiences are similar to those any chemical researcher is training in his/her first learning-stages. They will be based in common, low-risk materials, using them in creative ways to surprise the participants. Seeing in action how the chemical elements and molecules react, we will also discover what many of our everyday objects are made of. In the second activity it is proposed that the participants discover how chemistry can be fun and enjoyable. Through several games we can learn to recognize the elements of the periodic table and the tools used by a chemist in the laboratory. The whole family can enjoy the activities and investigate with the tools of the chemists.
