Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are a class of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models capable of creating multimedia content that resembles reality. The main challenge posed by these technologies is related to the so-called deepfakes (deep fakes), fake images or videos that simulate real events with extreme precision. This technology poses an urgent political threat, because it is already being used to spread fake news and disinformation, posing a crucial challenge for democratic governance and regulation. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the accountability, transparency and reliability of the GANs. In this talk, you will discover the main legal challenges we face from a legal perspective. This activity is carried out within the framework of SOLARIS (Strengthening democratic engagement through vaLue-bAsed geneRative adversarIal networkS), a project of the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program (GA 101094665) of the European Union (EU).
