About me

Carmen Mazarío Gárgoles obtained her degree in Biomedicine from the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid) in 2021, and a degree in Innovation Project Management and Entrepreneurship in 2020. In 2022, she continued her training by obtaining a Master's degree in Clinical and Applied Research in Oncology. In 2024, she joined Institute IMDEA Nutrition, within the Epigenetics of Lipid Metabolism Group led by Dr. Alberto Dávalos, to start her PhD thesis. Her current research focuses on exploring alternative and sustainable sources of extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from by-products of the dairy and vegetable industries. These EVs being studied as potential nanocarriers to improve the bioavailability and bioactivity of (poly)phenols for biomedical applications, thus promoting the use of industrial co-products. In addition, she is evaluating the possible epigenetic effects derived from diet and accidental ingestion of nanoplastics, with the aim of identifying their impact on health and disease.
