The aim of this workshop is to show to the public a very important molecular technique as the first step to discover the microbial diversity that lives in water: "DNA extraction". The workshop will begin with a short introduction to the cell and the importance of genetic material, to continue with the interaction of the participants, who will extract DNA from fruits and saliva. A very simple protocol will be followed with reagents that can be found at home. We will end by commenting on how it is routinely performed in the Microbial Ecology Unit of the IMDEA Laboratory, as well as its applications in research.
