About me

I am currently an Assistant Professor in Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a researcher in the PROLIGAR group of Drug Synthesis and Design at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University San Pablo-CEU (USP-CEU). I graduated in Pharmacy at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 2005 where I later received my PhD degree in Medicinal Chemistry in 2010. Throughout my career I have carried out research stays in centers of international prestige. The first one, in 2007, was a predoctoral fellowship at the School of Chemistry of Southampton University under the direction of Prof. A. Ganesan working on the synthesis and biological evaluation of antitumor agents derived from malformin for a period of 5 months and enjoying a mobility grant from the Ministry for University Teacher Training. The second one, in 2011, of a postdoctoral nature was carried out at the Chemistry Department of Oxford University under the direction of Prof. Darren J. Dixon working on the study of enantioselective addition reactions of isocyanocetates by cooperative catalysis of Lewis acids and bases for a period of 2 years and enjoying the prestigious "EC Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow" grant.
Throughout my research career developed at UCM, Autónoma de Madrid and USP-CEU I have participated in 4 research projects obtained in competitive calls from public organizations, 3 of them national and 1 regional. I would also like to highlight that in 2021 I was awarded my first project as PI of international character, it is a MSCA-IF granted by the European Commission associated to a postdoctoral researcher. In the same year I was also awarded the contract "YEI Research Assistants" of autonomous character to direct a researcher for 2 years. The research carried out with these projects is framed in Medicinal Chemistry for the development of agents with antitumor activity.
Derived from the research developed during my PhD Thesis at UCM, in my postdoctoral stays at UAM and Oxford University and at USP-CEU as a researcher-teacher I have obtained 17 publications and the book entitled "Antitumor agents inspired by alkaloids of natural origin" published in 2012 by Editorial Académica Española.
