I study the diversity of Arcellinida, a group of protists that inhabit environments as diverse as freshwater, soils, peat bogs, and even caves. Through metabarcoding, a technique that detects environmental DNA, I study their ecology, phylogeny, and evolution, as well as their role as indicators of environmental health. My research will also address the effect of salinity, an increasingly relevant factor due to climate change and intensive agriculture.
