3D printing has revolutionized the fields of biomedicine and pharmacy. One of the areas where it has major applications is cancer research and treatment. In this activity, we will give a brief talk on what 3D printing is and the different types that exist, and we will present some examples of its application in cancer, such as the development of organ-on-a-chip models, smart capsules, and microneedles. In addition, we will carry out a hands-on workshop in which students will learn to design and 3D print a smart capsule that can be loaded with chemotherapeutic compounds and is designed to be reabsorbed by the body, using two types of 3D printing: FDM and SLA.
