Pablo Iturbe Sanz

About me

Pablo Iturbe Sanz obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology with a specialization in Biotechnology at the Complutense University of Madrid in 2016. He then pursued a master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the International Menéndez Pelayo University-CSIC, which he completed in 2018. After that, he was awarded with a contract to work in the Environmental Microbiology group, under the supervision of Dr. Eduardo Díaz at CIB-CSIC (Madrid). In 2019 he moved to Pamplona (Navarra, Spain), to start his PhD in Biotechnology at the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), funded by an FPI fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities. His doctoral research in the Microbial Pathogenesis group at Navarrabiomed-UPNA, under the supervision of Dr. Iñigo Lasa, focused on the study of clinically relevant bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, and involved transcriptomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology approaches. With a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, and cellular biology, his career has been dedicated to understand microbial systems and their interactions with the host. Since 2024, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the IMDEA Nutrition Institute in the Molecular and Cellular Gerontology group. His current research focuses on the role of gut microbiota in aging and its implications for precision nutrition. Alongside his research, he has also been involved in teaching, serving at CEU San Pablo University and the Public University of Navarra.
