About me

Marta Matamala-Gomez, a physical therapist with a master's degree in cognitive neuroscience and neurorehabilitation from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2013), received her PhD in Biomedicine from the University of Barcelona in 2017. During her doctoral and postdoctoral studies in Italy (University of Pavia and University of Milano-Bicocca), she focused her research on studying the use of virtual illusions to modulate body, motor, and pain perception in patients with neurological disorders and chronic pain, as well as in healthy populations. Marta is currently a Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher at the University of Barcelona in collaboration with Universidad Carlos III (i_mbodyLab), co-supervised by Ana Tajadura-Jimenez. As part of her Marie Curie project, “SoMoWalk: Communicating walking movement through sonification,” she is investigating the use of sound to induce body illusions and modulate movement perception. Specifically, the project aims to improve gait symmetry in patients with brain damage (stroke) through sound illusions. The project also aims to investigate the synchronization of movement-related acoustic inputs with the activation of the sensorimotor cortex using electroencephalogram techniques.
