Esther Pizarro Juanas


About me

is a visual artist, researcher, and Full Professor at Universidad Europea de Madrid. She holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and has furthered her academic and artistic training through prestigious fellowships, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (New York), the Spanish Academy in Rome, the Colegio de España in Paris, and the Fulbright Commission in the United States. She has been awarded four research merit periods ("sexenios") by ANECA.
She leads the research group “Creative Ecosystems and BioDesign Lab (EcoBDLab)”, focused on the development of biobased materials and projects in bioart and biodesign, affiliated with the Creative Campus of Universidad Europea de Madrid, where she has been teaching since 2003.
Her artistic practice ranges from individual work to installation and public art. Her recent projects examine the complexity of contemporary society through the intersection of art, science, and technology, addressing environmental crises through visual exploration.
She has participated in over 200 exhibitions, received 15 grants and fellowships for artistic production and research, and earned 20 awards, mentions, and professional recognitions in the arts. As a researcher, she is the author of 36 scientific and technical publications, has given 4 presentations at academic conferences, participated in 18 scientific and technical committees, and delivered 45 lectures at specialized events and courses.
