Diego Coleto Checa obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Universidad de Granada in 2021, where he completed his Bachelor’s thesis in the Genetics Department on molecular phylogenetics. After graduating, he pursued the “Master’s Degree in Hospital Biological Specialties” at UDIMA, broadening his clinical laboratory expertise.
He later finished the Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics & Data Science for Precision and Personalized Medicine and Health at the “Instituto de Salud Carlos III”. His MSc thesis, carried out in the Computational Biology Group at IMDEA Nutrition under the supervision of Dr. Laura Judith Marcos Zambrano and Dr. Enrique Carrillo de Santa Pau, entitled “Comparative Evaluation of Bioinformatic Approaches for Intestinal Mycobiome Analysis: Non-Responsive Coeliac Disease and Obesity as Case Studies” .
In March 2025 he joined the Computational Biology Group at IMDEA Nutrition Institute, within the research line on Host–Microbiome Interactions. His work is framed in the GutPlantHealth project, which investigates the effect of plant-based diets in health.
