Javier Sánchez Sánchez
About me
PhD in Sports Science. Lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Sports at Universidad Europea de Madrid, and lead coordinator of the DATAFOOT research group.
My work focuses on the study and analysis of sport, with a particular emphasis on football and team sports, within a holistic approach that encompasses health, performance, and management. My doctoral thesis explored the impact of sports surfaces on injury risk in football players, marking the beginning of a research line that remains active to this day. The scientific dissemination of this work has led to numerous publications, books, and competitive funding at both national and international levels.
This sport-focused research line has enabled me to coordinate the International Research Network on Women and Refereeing (REFEREENET), which includes over 60 researchers from 12 different universities. Our latest research advances have allowed us to apply Big Data and Artificial Intelligence to football, bringing a qualitative leap to research in this field.
Additionally, I serve as a reviewer for several high-impact international journals and was honored with the National Award granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
I’m fortunate to share my professional interests with my personal passions. Currently, I coordinate the physical performance area for football referees and collaborate with international organizations to support the global development of football. In my free time, I enjoy playing the sport and staying active in my daily life.
