We propose a session to present the main lines of analysis of the four research projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities that are currently studying the work of William Shakespeare in Spain. This is the first time that members of the research teams from all four projects will come together to share their objectives and explore potential synergies. These four projects have a broad international scope and open up new areas of research that we believe will significantly advance Shakespearean studies. Based at the universities of Alicante, Jaén, Murcia, and UNED, the projects address key aspects of social and cultural impact, including social activism, economics, the reception of Shakespeare's work in Spain and Europe, and spirituality. We believe it is essential to bring these diverse perspectives on Shakespeare’s work to the general public, in order to highlight the continuing relevance of his plays in contemporary society. The titles of the projects are as follows: Shakespeare, Activism and the Arts in the 21st Century (SHAKE-ART21) led by Dr. Reme Perni (University of Alicante); “Worth and Words: Market Economies and Infinite Gold Discourse in Early Modern Literature” (WoWo), led by Drs. Jesús López-Peláez (University of Jaén) and Jordi Coral (UAB); The reception of Shakespeare's works in Spanish and European Culture III, led by Drs. Keith Gregor and Juan Francisco Cerdá (University of Murcia); and “Shakespeare’s Religious Afterlives: Text, Reception and Performance” (SHAKREL) led by Marta Cerezo (UNED).
