«Rayo verde»: algunos diagramas explicativos

Hace un par de semanas hablába de la veracidad del «rayo verde» y de su origen como fenómeno atmosférico. Posteriormente ilustré diferentes casos, incluyendo imágenes que muestran rayos de diferentes tipos y colores.  Ahora incluyo un par de diagramas, espero, aclaratorios.

Después de poner la entrada relativa a las fotos, cuando regresaba a casa, recordé que durante el fin de semana del primero de mayo había creado los siguiente diagramas para intentar explicar de manera más sencilla cómo se produce un «rayo verde». Olvidé por completo incluirlos durante los días siguiente.  En cualquier caso, espero que sean efectivos y sirvan para  disolver dudas.


En el primer diagrama se muestra la vista lateral. El Sol ya se ha escondido por debajo del horizonte real, pero por efecto de la refracción, el camino óptico de la luz solar se ve curvado, de manera que seguimos viéndolo. Además, debido a la fuerte difracción, es posible ver las componentes roja y verde separadas. La segunda  figura muestra la vista frontal.  Esto es, tal y como la vería un observador.
