La fiesta del libro y la lectura 2022
Cada 23 de abril, el libro se convierte en protagonista de la vida. Los ciudadanos, cercanos a la lectura y los que habitualmente no leen, reciben los impactos de los medios de comunicación en una fecha tan señalada. Lo es históricamente y también en la actualidad.
Así, según consta en la web del ministerio de Cultura y Deporte, estas son las raíces: «El 23 de abril se conmemora el Día Mundial del Libro y del Derecho de Autor. La razón: el 23 de abril de 1616 fallecían Cervantes, Shakespeare e Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. También en un 23 de abril nacieron –o murieron– otros escritores eminentes como Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla o Manuel Mejía Vallejo. Por este motivo, esta fecha tan simbólica para la literatura universal fue la escogida por la Conferencia General de la UNESCO, en 1995, para rendir un homenaje mundial al libro y sus autores».
Fue, según la misma fuente, en 1995, cuando el gobierno español presente a la UNESCO la propuesta de la Unión Internacional de Editores para establecer el 23 de abril como Día del Libro y del Derecho de Autor a escala mundial. Desde entonces y hasta nuestros días, en todo el mundo se celebra el Día del Libro y del Derecho de Autor el 23 de abril, como una forma de fomentar la lectura, reconocer la figura del autor y procurar el fortalecimiento de la industria editorial de cada país.
¿Y este año qué se celebra?
Son muchas las actividades, pero hay una especial cada año, la entrega del Premio Cervantes que ha correspondido a la escritora Cristina Peri Rossi.
La ceremonia de entrega del Premio se realiza el 23 de abril, coincidiendo con la celebración del Día del Libro y el fallecimiento de Miguel de Cervantes, en el Paraninfo de la Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), a mano de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España y en presencia del ministro titular del Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte.

El sector del libro está dando pasos decisivos hacia la sostenibilidad, pero el cambio fundamental todavía está por hacer.
El autor ofrece datos del Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte que deben hacernos reflexionar: «En 2021 se publicaron en España 64.645 libros en papel y 28.077 en soportes electrónicos. De ellos, el 97,5% eran nuevas ediciones. Teniendo en cuenta que un habitante de nuestro país lee una media de 13 libros al año, está claro que algo no va bien». Pero el texto añade que hay margen para la mejora. Y eso es lo importante.
La lectura es un proceso de aprendizaje personalizado o colectivo, que solo requiere del conocimiento y la voluntad de quien lee. Es una fiesta del libro, pero sobre todo de los que leen cada día. No importa el formato, lo necesario es que a la lectura se acerquen cada día más personas en todo el mundo.
