”Drink Coca-Cola” primer ejemplo de Publicidad Subliminal
Buscando un libro en la biblioteca, me llamó la atención un título en particular, llamado Publicidad Subliminal. Estaba escrito por Clemente Ferrer Roselló y consistía en respuestas de personas consagradas en la actividad publicitaria a preguntas relacionadas con la publicidad subliminal. También me llamó la atención que ante la pregunta de si conocían algún ejemplo la mayoría contestara que uno antiguo de Coca-Cola. Por ello investigué en qué consistía este ejemplo y así poderlo explicar.
Antes de todo, un mensaje subliminal es una señal o mensaje preparado para que sea recibido por debajo de los límites normales de la percepción, calando en el subconsciente.
El ejemplo al que hacían referencia estos expertos en actividades publicitarias fue el inicio de lo conocido como publicidad subliminal. A partir del libro titulado The Hidden Persuaders de Vance Packard, publicado en 1957, se explicaba un estudio llevado en el cine Fort Lee, de Nueva Jersey. El director de dicho cine le encargó a James Vicary que diseñara unos carteles publicitarios para aumentar las ventas. A James Vicary se le ocurrió una nueva forma de anunciarse. Más tarde, el mismo James Vicary declaró a la revista Advertising Age, que el experimentó resultó ser una mentira llevada a cabo debido a que su empresa pasaba por dificultades económicas.
Para entonces la mayoría de las agencias de publicidad ya empezaron a utilizar estas técnicas.
A pesar de que oficialmente se niega toda influencia posible de la publicidad subliminal, y de que existen miles de estudios que la desacreditan, en la actualidad su práctica está prohibida, ya que coarta la libertad del individuo.
