Contaminación del Suelo por Basura Electrónica: Una Nueva Pandemia Ambiental en el Tercer Mundo
Siempre que se habla de contaminación de suelos pasamos a pensar en los tipos clásicos, y especialmente en la química y la biológica. Empero el progreso tecnológico parece inducir un incremento de la diversidad y complejidad, no solo social o de otra índole, sino también de los productos de desecho que generan y contaminan tanto nuestro cuerpo, como a la naturaleza misma. No es de extrañar, que la nueva clasificación de la FAO (WRB) haya tenido que crear el taxón tecnosuelos, que puede subdividirse en otros muchos taxones. La contaminación por residuos electrónicos está alcanzando una magnitud alarmante. Y lo peor es que suele exportarse a los países pobres bajo el lema: ¡Qué se contaminen ellos! Y luego hablamos de luchar contra la degradación ambiental. No contentos con contaminarnos nosotros echamos la basura a los desheredados. Esto es lo que la economía globalizadora ofrece. Mientras tanto en Europa, nuestros políticos siguen intentando buscar una solución para el tema, bajo el lema ¡quien contamina debe pagar! Si fuera cierto, el PIB de muchos países pobres subiría como la espuma. El caso de la contaminación por basura electrónica es uno entre otros muchos. El ejemplo de Estados Unidos es más que vergonzante, pero nadie quiere responsabilizarse. Veamos de qué estamos hablando y cual es su magnitud. Eso si, ahora “mola”, apelando a la acronimofilia, hablar de ciberresiduos: ¿En que trabaja usted?: Investigo sobre ciberresiduos. ¡Imponente!. También se la llama eufemísticamente la basura del siglo. Muy postmoderno el término. Y algunos ya ven un nuevo negocio. Tal ceguera selectiva comienza a ser la norma.

Hoy intentaré ser breve. Bajo el necesario consumismo que impone la economía global-devastadora, uno debe cambiar tanto de móvil, como de aparatos relacionados, cada dos por tres. Lo mismo ocurre con los PC, PDA, etc. Tales artefactos llevan substancias contaminantes de diversa índole (mercurio, plomo, cadmio, etc., etc.) que contaminan gravemente suelos y aguas, y la cadena trófica de los ecosistemas, afectando a la salud, no solo de los recicladotes, sino de la población en general. Empero parece resultar que es mejor exportarla con vistas a que se contaminen los pobres. ¡Para eso están! Deben pensar los que toman las decisiones. Un síntoma más de su hipocresía.

La extensión de los vertederos o basureros crece a un ritmo más alto que el de la población, comenzando a ocupar extensiones impensables tan solo hace unos decenios. El reciclaje es una posibilidad que se utiliza, no lo dudo. Sin embargo, también es cierto que las noticias que nos llegan por diversos medios de comunicación son más que alarmantes. Muchos de tales productos son exportados. Hace menos de un año leía que su destino final era fundamentalmente el SE asiático. Ahora nos cuentan que va a África. Bajo la hipocresía imperante, no es de extrañar que dentro de poco se cree una ONG bajo el lema de “Basuras Unidas y Solidarias”. Eso si basuras muy contaminantes y ricas en vitaminas tóxicas.
La población de los países receptores es la encargada de “reciclar” tales productos. Pero claro está, sin medida alguna (o en el mejor de los casos insuficientes) y con un total desconocimiento de lo que “tienen entre manos”. Primero se hace rapiña de sus recursos, luego se les vende armas para que se maten y finalmente les contaminamos para rematarlos. ¡Tremendo!. Eso si luego nuestros políticos hablan de sustentabilidad.
En Europa se quiere obligar a los fabricantes a que se encarguen de su recogida y reciclaje. Los pobres empresarios que podrán hacer ante las inadmisibles demandas de los gobernares: ¿se lo imaginan? ¡pues sí!, exactamente exportarla!. En caso contrario tales empresarios deslocalizarían las empresas, llevándose los residuos, pero también los puestos de trabajo. ¿Qué harán entonces los políticos? Pues mirar hacia otro lado, no sea que se contaminen ellos también, además de perder votos. Vamos, se podía poner un lema: ¡consuma tecnología y produzca basura: gracias!. Tambien existen otro tipo de ciberbasuras que debemos padecer cuando trabajamos con nuestros PC, ¿verdad?
Resumiendo, si somos incapaces de reducir beneficios para no envenenarnos, ¿Cómo vamos a demandar que hagan lo mismo con residuos más peligrosos, tales como los radioactivos? ¡Exportémoslos por Dios!. Sino, será una ruina económica. ¡Lo que nos faltaba!
