Matemáticas infinitas

Reseñamos en Matemáticas y sus fronteras el libro recientemente publicado por la Universidad de Alicante, Matemáticas infinitas (Curiosidades y hechos matemáticos), una obra colectiva de gran interés para todos aquellos que quieran conocer más sobre las matemáticas de una manera entretenida.

El libro consta de 22 capítulos autónomos elaborados por reconocidos profesionales en el campo de las matemáticas, de distintas procedencias, pero todos ellos entusiastas de las matemáticas y comprometidos en la tarea de mostrar su belleza y utilidad a todos los ciudadanos. Estos son los títulos de los diferentes capítulos y que muestran la variedad del libro:

Los editores y padres y madres de esta iniciativa son Julio Mulero, Lorena Segura Abad y Juan Matías Sepulcre Martínez, a los que hay que agradecer su trabajo y su buen hacer con la selección de los autores y la posterior edición. Y ojalá no sea esta la última empresa literaria en la que se involucran (conociéndolos, estamos seguros que esta obra tendrá continuación).

Debemos también destacar la labor editorial de la Universidad de Alicante, que desde el año 1978, ha llevado a cabo la edición de más de 1500 publicaciones con una media de 40 obras cada año. La que reseñamos hoy es la primera de una nueva colección, ADN, “combinando el rigor científico con un tono divulgativo y ameno con el objetivo de acercar a un público lector amplio, de forma clara y rigurosa, el conocimiento generado en una gran diversidad de especialidades científicas.”

He tenido la oportunidad de participar en el libro, con el capítulo Famosos matemáticos que nunca existieron, en el que se recogen algunas de las entradas ya publicadas en el blog pero ahora de una manera sistemática que espero agrade al lector del libro. 

 En resumen, un libro está maravillosamente editado, con papel satinado, ilustraciones a color, etc.; 400 páginas de puro deleite matemático.
