Un vídeo que vale un millón de palabras

La abstracción descansa en el corazón de las matemáticas, las hace poderosas, pero al mismo tiempo, difíciles de entender. La abstracción convierte a las matemáticas en bellas y austeras, útiles y esotéricas.

Sin embargo, una imagen puede domesticar al loco monstruo de la abstracción, y a veces, un vídeo puede hacerlo de manera mucho más clara. Ahora, un par de matemáticos han creado un vídeo (ver http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX3VmDgiFnY) que muestra cómo visualizar y entender las transformaciones de Möbius, que es una herramienta matemática fundamental y altamente abstracta.

El vídeo, titulado “ Möbius Transformations Revealed” ha sido una sensación en Internet, con 60.000 entradas en YouTube hasta el momento. Además, ha sido galardonado con una mención honorable en Science 2007, el desafío de Visualización de Ciencia e Ingeniería.
