Una conmovedora ironía

Una cierta y conmovedora ironía surge en el pensamiento de que, mientras que escritores como estos predicaron el cambio lento e instaron a los hombres para adaptarse al medio ambiente, los mismos millonarios a quienes consideraban «más aptos» en la lucha por la existencia, estaban transformando el medio ambiente con una increíble rapidez y volviendo los valores de los Spencer y los Summers de este mundo constantemente cada vez menos aptos para la supervivencia.

There is a certain touching irony in the thought that, while writers like these preached slow change and urged men to adapt to the environment, the very millionaires whom they took to be the “fittest” in the struggle for existence, were transforming the environment with incredible rapidity and rendering the values of the Spencers and Summers of this world constantly less and less fit for survival.
